LCA continues dominant ways

WESTWOOD — Lexington Christian Academy continued its streak of dominance over district opponents, defeating Fairview 42-0 Friday night at Fairview High School.

The win gave LCA a perfect 4-0 record in the district. In their four wins LCA outscored its opponents an amazing 200 to zero.

“I have been coaching for 20-something years and this is one of those once-in-a-career type teams, that comes around in small schools” said LCA coach Paul Rains. “You just have to cherish it while you can, and know that it will be different in days to come.”

Fairview coach Nate McPeek also had high praise for LCA. “They are a great football team,” he said. “I know that they are No. 2 in the rankings, but they are the best this state has to offer in single ‘A’ football.”

Neither team could get any offense going in the first quarter, while they adjusted to the less-than-perfect field conditions, but in the second quarter LCA’s high-powered offense got on track and never looked back.

Their first score came around the 9:45 mark, when Lucas Witt connected with Max Barjuca from 10 yards out.

A Fairview interception gave LCA the ball back with great field position. Six plays later, Witt hit Adam Hall, who was streaking down the sideline for the 25-yard touchdown.

Dominique Hayden would add a 6-yard touchdown run before halftime to make the score 21-0.

LCA would pick up right where it left off in the third quarter. LCA would score on their first three possessions of the half, before pulling their starters.

Witt threw for two of the touchdowns. The first when he connected with Drew Walls from 15 yards out, and the second on a 40-yard strike to Sam Duff.

Witt, who is committed to play baseball at the University of Kentucky, finished the game 14 of 22 for 200 yards. The four touchdown passes brings his season total to 22 against zero interceptions.

Hayden would add the final score of the game and broke a state record in the process. His 44-yard score put him a top of the state’s all-time scoring chart with 723 points, passing Herbie Phelps record that was set in 1963.

Fairview’s offense could never get on track, managing just 128 yards of total offense.

Fairview's best chance to score came in the first quarter when it had the ball on the LCA 35, but Tyler Gilbert’s pass on fourth down was just out of the reach of Caleb Collins.

T.J. Shelton was the leading rusher for Fairview accounting for 60 yards on 15 carries.

“I’m proud of our kids and I want everyone to know that,” said McPeek. “Our kids fought and played hard. We earned the three seed and we are just going to try and keep rolling and get as many wins as we can.”
