Ashland 15s make final four

Staff report

GEORGETOWN Make it three in a row for Ashland’s 15s at the Babe Ruth East Kentucky State Tournament in Georgetown.

After it collected two wins on Saturday, Ashland picked up another, 10-4 over Johnson County, on Sunday. The victory put Ashland in the final four as the team was set for a late game Monday evening against Harrison County in the loser’s bracket.

Ashland lost to Somerset in its opening game, but since has wins over Russell County and Scott County — to go along with the win over Johnson County on Sunday.

Dylan Delaney did the damage both offensively and on the mound on Sunday. He went six innings, striking out seven, while allowing just six hits. He also went 1-for-2 from the plate with two runs and two RBIs.

Matt Stephens had a big day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with two triples to drive in two runs.

Billy Certain went 2-for-4 and had a team-best 3 RBIs. Jacob Mullen and Tanner Robinson each had a pair of hits.

In all, Ashland pounded out 14 hits.

“We started out early and put some pressure on them with two runs in the first inning,” Ashland manager Gary Robinson said. “That was really important.

“The big thing is the kids are feeding off the support we have down here. The support from parents and fans has been great. We’re really fortunate to have them.”

Somerset and Lexington South were set to battle in the winner’s bracket on Monday night.
