Rowan County junior Amber Riddle became Kentucky high school fast-pitch softball’s career home run leader on Monday night.
Riddle’s solo shot in the sixth inning — her 31st overall — cleared the left-center field fence and traveled an estimated 230 feet against Mason County.
The homer gave the Lady Vikings a 6-0 lead on their way to a 9-1 victory.
Riddle broke a tie with former Hopkins Country Central player Megan Shadrick, who hit 30 home runs from 2000-06 according to Kentucky High School Athletic Association records.
Riddle’s 12th homer this spring tied her for the state’s single-season record. Yezine Smith (Christian County, 2007) and Jenn Skaggs (Louisville Holy Cross, 2003) also hit a dozen for their teams.
Kaitlin Muncy also homered Monday for Rowan County (19-7).
Riddle, who had eight homers as a freshman and 11 as a sophomore, had a double to go with her record-setting blast.
Already even with the single-season record for homers, Rowan County has eight games remaining on its regular season schedule before opening district play on May 20.
