Anyone willing to help make the holiday more memorable for a child is asked to consider becoming a sponsor for Saturday’s fifth annual Special Needs Adoption Program Christmas party at Kentucky Horse Park.
“All of the children in SNAP and at this party have already had their parental rights terminated and are waiting to be adopted. The main role of For Jamie’s Sake is to provide gifts for the children attending the party as well as provide hope, laughter and encouragement,” said Lee Ann Gollihue of For Jamie’s Sake. “We have several children that are registered for the party that don’t have a sponsor. To sponsor a child someone can make a monetary donation and we will go shopping or we can provide them with a wish list from the children.”
Gollihue said potential sponsors have options for their support. “There are a couple of children that will turn 18 soon and this will be their last event before they ‘age-out’ of the foster care system. There is a fee of $100 per child; however, that can be broken down into four sponsors at $25 per child, two at $50 or one sponsor at $100. We even have one child that has 10 sponsors at $10. So, whatever someone is comfortable with financially, they can sponsor a child.”
The need, she said, is tremendous.
“Currently we have 30 children registered for the party with no sponsor. As the week draws closer to the party we will have more children registered. We really need the community support to make this party a success for these very special children,” Gollihue said.
“You know, in life we all need happy memories to call upon. We want to ensure that these children have happy memories surrounding Christmas. Jesus was born for all of us and that is joy that we want to share with these children who need hope and encouragement so much,” she said.
