Copper theft reported at coke plant demolition site

ASHLAND — The following information was taken from Ashland Police Department reports:


‰Carloads of copper wire are missing and police are looking for the culprits.

Thieves stole $30,000 worth of copper from the AKā€ˆSteel coke plant late last week. The large pieces of copper wiring were in four railroad cars at the plant, which is closed and in the process of being demolished.


‰Walmart on Riverhill Drive reported a shoplifting Sunday. The store retrieved the merchandise, which it valued at $149, and police arrested a suspect.


‰Burglars broke into Ashland Milling sometime Saturday and made off with a large amount of animal feed and fuel pellets. The store reported 35 bags of cattle and horse feed and 10 bags of fuel pellets stolen. Police have not named any suspects.

‰A resident in the 1700 block of Nervie Street told police last week her television had been stolen during the night when she was asleep. Police have not named any suspects.
