New rector at Calvary church
Mother T.J. Azar will be the new rector at the Calvary Episcopal Church beginning Sunday at the celebration of All Saints.
She was assistant rector of St. Anne Episcopal Church in West Chester, Ohio, where she served for three years. Before seminary, she was a professor of writing in two colleges, where she also worked developing programs for the assessment of student academic achievement.
“I’m very excited about beginning service with Calvary,” she said. “The congregation wants to realize its potential serving God and serving the people of Ashland. Guiding and encouraging them in those efforts is going to be an adventure.”
Calvary Episcopal Church is at 1337 Winchester Ave. The Sunday service begins at 9 a.m. A healing service with communion is offered at noon Thursdays.
Sign up extended for Giving Tree
The deadline for signing up for the Giving Tree has been extended until through the end of the workday at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The deadline had been at 4 p.m. today, but Trish Hall, executive director of CAReS, said the organization had decided to add two workdays to the deadline in response to this week’s severe weather.
In addition, an unusually low number of individuals and families have signed up, and Hall said she hopes the two additional days will bring the numbers up.
Sign ups are in the CAReS office in The Neighborhood, the name given the former Johnson’s Dairy building on Carter Avenue at 25th Street. The office is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Despite the additional time to do so, Hall advises that those signing up for the Giving Tree come to the CAReS office as soon as possible.
Each person or household participating must have the Neighborhood card and documents listed on the CAReS website:www.boydcountycares.org. Those include birthdates and social security numbers for each resident of the household, proof of residency and income levels. For questions, please call (606) 324-2949.
Signing up for the Giving tree can be a bit time consuming, Hall warned, depending on the number of volunteers available to assist the CAReS staff.
