Church to host Dove Award winner John Darrin Rowsey

RUSSELL — A free concert by Dove Award winner John Darin Rowsey and New Journey Trio will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mead Memorial United Methodish Church.

Rowsey, a West VIrginia native, began singing in his church when he was 4, but it wasn’t until 1995 that he began to find success in songwriting. He signed a publishing deal with Centergy Publishing and got his big break when the Gaither Vocal Band recorded his song “Singing with the Saints,” which reached platinum status.

Eventually, Rowsey took the male singer’s position with the gospel group New River; the first single he recorded was “Four Days Late,” which made it to the No. 1 position in gospel music and was voted Song of the Year, followed by “The Truth Is,” which was nominated for a Dove Award.

In 2003, Rowsey accepted a contract with Daywind Music Publishing as an exclusive songwriter. He won a Dove Award in 2008 and has been nominated four times and has had numerous Top 40 hits. His song “Hey” won Country Gospel Song of the Year at the Southern Gospel Music Awards in 2009.

The church is at 501 Boyd St. Larry Puryear is pastor. For more information, call (606) 836-6274.
