A new event in Catlettsburg is aimed at putting some extra money into the pockets of local residents while raising funds for children’s baseball.
Catlettsburg Trading Days will be an outdoor flea market where businesses and residents are invited to set up booths and sell a variety of items. No firearms, pornography or items containing profanity will be permitted.
The event will be at the Catlettsburg Little League Complex. It will open to the public at noon Friday and close at 9 p.m. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, but donation of nonperishable food items for the Catlettsburg Food Panty are strongly encouraged.
For vendors, setup begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday and 30 minutes before opening time on Saturday and Sunday. Vendor fees are $40 a day without electric and $50 with electric.
The daily fee includes a vending permit per day and a 10 by 20 reserved space. Vendors are responsible for bringing their own tables, chairs and canopies. Space is available for up to 150 vendors.
To register, call Faith Cornwell at (606) 615-5497 or Robb Oldham at (606) 923-9512, or send a private message to Catlettsburg Trading Days on Facebook.
The event is sponsored by the Catlettsburg Leadership Community Development Council, Catlettsburg Park Board and the City of Catlettsburg. Proceeds will benefit the CLCD and Catlettsburg Little League Baseball.
Organizers say Trading Days was born out of a discussion to provide additional activities for residents in Catlettsburg and draw visitors into town. “It is just something for our community,” Cornwell said. “Other than Labor Day, we don’t have nothing in that town.”
“People like to get bargains at flea markets and sell their crafts. We thought, ‘why not give a spot for people to do what they like?’” Oldham said.
If the event goes well, another will be planned for the spring, organizers said. Response so far has been good, Cornwell said.
Cornwell said the hope is Trading Days will grow into an event as large at Court Days in Mount Sterling.
