ASHLAND — Wurtland primary registration set


Wurtland Elementary School registration for first-year students in the primary program (kindergarten) will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 15 through 19 in the main lobby.

Children must be be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1 to enroll. Parents or legal guardians should bring certificate of live birth, Social Security card, immunization records and custody papers (if applicable).

Grocery store aids cancer fight


Ralph’s Food Fair is raising money for the Carter County American Cancer Society through a raffle, with drawings set for Cancer Day on April 10.

Tickets are six for $5 or $1 each, with several prizes, including a gas grill, a 42-inch television and a basketball goal. Hot dogs, hamburgers and chili will be sold, and a car wash will be available, with proceeds going to the cancer group.

Inside the store that day Ralph’s will donate 5 percent of sales to the group.

Classic, Historical vehicles reassessed


Kentucky Department of Revenue, working in conjunction with the County Property Valuation Offices, have reassessed the values of the Classic and Historial vehicles statewide.

Reassessed values were changed after many renewal notices were mailed out from the Transportation Cabinet causing the rates to be higher than the amount printed on the renewal notices.

Boyd clerk offices closed on Friday


Boyd County Clerk’s offices in all locations will be closed Friday due to Boyd County’s holiday schedule. The Kyova Mall office will be open Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the Ashland branch office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.

Prayer walk meeting Tuesday


An organizational meeting for the seventh annual Greenup County Prayer Walk for the National Day of Prayer will be at noon Tuesday in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Russell.

 Each church in the county is asked to have a pastor or a couple of representatives attend. The meeting will include prayer, distribution of promotional posters, discussion about ways to involve congregations in the event and transportation planning.

The walk will be from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. May 2 beginning at the Bridges Christian Church parking lot. Participants will walk 1 1/2 miles to Advance Memorial United Methodist Church in Flatwoods, stopping at prayer stations along the way. Those unable to walk the route will “stay and pray” in the parking lot.
