Cave Run Lake cleanup set for Saturday

MOREHEAD — The annual Cave Run Lake Cleanup will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Clay Lick Boat Ramp will be the event staging area. Volunteers must register and sign in at this location.

Boat owners are encouraged to support the cleanup. Volunteers who do not have boats will be transported to garbage-laden shorelines.

Volunteers should wear long pants, boots and gloves. Shorts and sandals are not recommended. Trash bags will be provided.

A free pizza lunch will be served.

“A lot of hardworking volunteers come together each year to help maintain the lake as one of Kentucky’s best attractions,” said Dave Manner, a ranger with the Daniel Boone National Forest.

“This event provides an excellent opportunity for those who want to give back to their community.”

The event is sponsored by the U.S. Forest Service, Morehead State University’s Environmental Education Center, Rowan County Solid Waste, Cave Run Marinas, Eastern Kentucky PRIDE, Papa John’s Pizza, Porter Tire and local sanitation.

For more information, call the Cumberland Ranger District at (606) 784-6428.
