OWINGSVILLE — Woman, 2 EMTs injured in crash

OWINGSVILLE - An Elliott County woman and two EMTs were taken to the hospital after an ambulance accident Monday afternoon on Interstate 64 in Bath County, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.

Wandalene Smith, 62, of Sandy Hook, a patient in the ambulance, was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. The two EMTs were treated and released at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

The ambulance was headed east on I-64 on a non-emergency run when the driver lost control near the 126 mile marker and struck a guardrail end cap. The crash was reported at 2:18 p.m. Monday.

The ambulance was headed from Lexington to Sandy Hook. The cause of the accident was unknown.

Relay for Life starts Friday

GREENUP - This year’s Greenup County Relay for Life, Relay on the River, will be from 6 p.m. Friday through Saturday morning.

For the first time, the event will be a “road course” of sorts, with participants walking through downtown Greenup, near the courthouse. There will be a variety of activities, including live entertainment, auctions and children’s events. Food will be available.

The event raises money for cancer research and programs that benefit cancer patients, survivors and their families.

Last year, 20 relay teams raised more than $42,000 in Greenup County.

Library Friends will meet May 9

CANNONSBURG - The annual meeting of the Boyd County Public Library Friends will be at 7 p.m. May 9 at the Kyova branch. Agenda items include bylaws and constitution; 501(c)(3) status (nonprofit); a used-book sale; and library funding requests.

The group is seeking new members; annual membership is $10.
