A Lexington man has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of two teenage girls who went missing from Lawrence County over the weekend.
Jesus Cristino, 19, was lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center on a charge of custodial interference Saturday after the two girls, Brittany Cheyenne Bishop and Karina Catalan, both 16, both were found safe in Lexington.
Police said one of the girls was located at a gas station on Richmond Road about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and she told officers the other girl was at Cristino’s apartment. Officers went to the address the girl provided and found the other girl there with Cristino.
The two girls went missing on Friday. They were last seek walking toward a school bus stop on Ky. 3 near Louisa.
Under Kentucky law, custodial interference is a Class D felony that carries a one- to five-year prison sentence unless the person taken from lawful custody is returned voluntarily by the defendant.
Cristino remained in custody Monday morning, according to the jail’s online inmate roster.
