ASHLAND — Lions breakfast is Saturday

ASHLAND

The South Ashland Lions Club will have a Fall Pancake Breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church at Carter Avenue and 18th Street.

The meal will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, made-to-order omelets and beverages. The cost is $6 a person and take-out orders will be available.

The event is a major fundraiser for the club, and proceeds will benefit Lions’ eyesight programs and other community charities.

Used eyeglasses, lenses, frames and hearing aids will be collected for recycling on Saturday.



OUS counselor event slated

IRONTON

Ohio University Southern will have its annual School Counselor Day from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9 on the Ironton campus.

The day, geared toward those working with students in kindergarten through high school, will include workshops, wellness information, OU updates and a working lunch.

Sessions will explore the role of school counselors, drugs in school, social media and serving diverse student populations.

Continuing education credit will be available for $15 and participants will receive certificates of participation. Preregistration is required.

Blazer council election Friday

ASHLAND

Paul G. Blazer High School will have a special election to elect a minority parent representative to the school council from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

Parents and legal guardians of Blazer students are eligible to vote. Voting will take place in the main office.



College aid sweepstakes set

FRANKFORT

Kentucky residents have a chance to win a third-generation iPad from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority in a sweepstakes through Facebook today through midnight Dec. 1.

Entrants must click on the orange graduate icon on the KHEAA Facebook page, answer a question about college and “like” KHEAA on Facebook. KHEAA will not share or sell personal information to a third party.

Only Kentucky residents are eligible. Employees of KHEAA or its sister agency, the Kentucky Higher Education Student Loan Corp. and their immediate family members are not eligible. Prior winners are also not eligible.

The drawing will be in early December, and the winner will be notified by email. The winner must respond by email within three calendar days to receive the iPad. If no response is received within three days, another winner will be drawn.
