The Heritage, Arts, Science and Tourism Center, the agency that oversees the historic McConnell House, is seeking corporate sponsors.
The sponsors would provide in-kind donations of labor for maintenance needs at the house, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. HASTC would pay for materials, although a sponsor could choose to supply those items, too. The sponsors would have their business names added to a recognition plaque, which will be prominently displayed in the house.
Sponsoring businesses will also be noted through HASTC publicity. Because HASTC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, the donations may provide a tax deduction for the donor.
“HASTC is pleased to announce one of our first corporate sponsors, Area Pest Control in Raceland. This local business has agreed to furnish labor and material for our pest control needs,” said Bud Matheny, HASTC board president. “The house had an issue with brown lady bugs. Thanks to Jack Helms at Area Pest Control, the house should be lady bug free for our spring functions.”
Other areas of need at the house include HVAC maintenance, electrical and plumbing needs and arbor care. The corporate sponsorship program in not intended for major renovation and historic preservation work; those projects are typically done using grant funding. The sponsorship program is for general upkeep needs, the type of maintenance every home occasionally needs.
The mission of HASTC is the preservation of regional culture and history through educational exhibits and programs in the arts and sciences. The center also acts as a resource for economic tourism and cultural development within the region. The historic house is the agency’s center of activity. It is also a tourist attraction and a venue for private events such as weddings and parties.
