ASHLAND — Final summer movie Friday

ASHLAND The Boyd County Public Library will show the final free family summer movie Friday with the screening of the PG-rated “The Goonies” at noon at the main branch, 1740 Central Ave.

Golf scramble to benefit AARF

ASHLAND The Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have a golf scramble Aug. 10 at Sandy Creek Golf Course.

Registration, which is $50 per person or $200 per foursome, is at 8 a.m. Tee-off is at 9 a.m.

First place will receive $300, second place $250 and third place $200. A $10,000 hole-in-one contest is planned, along with split the pot and door prizes. Lunch will be provided by Rick’s BBQ.

‘Nutcracker’ auditions Aug. 8

CHARLESTON The Charleston Ballet,  under the direction of Kim R. Pauley, will have auditions for roles in the upcoming production of “The Nutcracker” from 4 to 5 p.m. Aug. 8 at its studios at 100 Capitol St. on the mezzanine.

Those auditioning must be enrolled as students at the American Academy Ballet and be at least 9 years old. Roles are available for ages from 9 through teens. Students must have had previous ballet training and be able to attend all rehearsals. Those auditioning should dress for ballet class.
