ASHLAND — A “Casino Night on the River” on July 27 aboard the Belle of Cincinnati and hosted by the Hannah Jo Smith Leukemia Foundation will continue the organization’s mission to raise money for childhood leukemia research.

The annual riverboat cruise is now in its 16th year, according to organizers. It will again feature professional table games, albeit with fake money, along with silent and live auctions, a dinner buffet and dancing with music provided by D.J. Randy Hayes.

Auction items this year include tickets to University of Kentucky sporting events, a Cincinnati Reds suite for 14, jewelry, trip packages and more.

Tickets are $100 per person. All ticket holders will be entered into a drawing for door prizes. Sponsorships are available for $1,000, and include eight tickets, choice of dining deck and appearance on sponsor signs. The boat will hold 435 passengers, and tickets are expected to go fast.

Boarding time is 6 p.m.; sailing time is 7 p.m. The Belle will dock at 10 p.m., but the event will not conclude until 11 p.m.

To date, the organization has raised approximately $1.4 million to benefit cancer research taking place at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. “Every dime that we make goes to research,” said Gwen Myers, one of the event organizers.

The organization’s annual golf outing will follow on Aug. 30 at Hidden Cove Golf Course at Grayson Lake State Park. Registration for golf is at 7:30 a.m. for the morning round and 1 p.m. for the afternoon round.

Sponsorships are available for that event and range from $2,000 to $5,000. The donation for a four member golf team is $400. Texas Roadhouse will be catering the event.
