Café, agency working together for beneficial First Friday

ASHLAND — A local restaurant is hoping to make the next First Friday in Ashland a celebration of the arts and an assist to a local agency.

The Lamp Post Café is distributing fliers; patrons dining there on First Friday can show the flier and 20 percent of what they spend will go to A Brighter Future, an organization that serves individuals with intellectual disabilities. It is at 214 15th St.

In conjunction with helping the organization, the café also is giving A Brighter Future a stage to showcase talent.

The featured artist for August will be Joe Tingler of Ashland, who creates abstract drawings, Wendy Davidson, quality assurance director for A Brighter Future, said. Tingler is an adult client of the agency.

Aaron McCloud, a staff member of A Brighter Future, will provide music following a poetry reading.

A Brighter Future has been operating for about a year, with satellite offices in Corbin, Flemingsburg and Richmond.

Althougn the other offices have had fundraisers, this will be the first for the Ashland office, which is the headquarters of A Brighter Future.

Davidson said A Brighter Future will donate the funds raised to Marshall University’s Autism Services Center.

A Brighter Future offers an adult day training center which teaches life skills, daily living and job skills.

It also has a community living service and offers residential and behavior support.
