ASHLAND — Tickets for the final raffle to benefit the Northeast Kentucky American Red Cross are for sale  and local officials hope there will be no empty seats for their only annual fundraiser.

Tickets for the June 13 event at the Elks Lodge in Ashland are $100 each and include dinner for two at the Elks. Only 350 tickets will be sold for the drawing and ticketholders do not need to be present to win.

“This is the 11th year our board of directors has coordinated the annual event to help fund Red Cross programs and assistance given in our five-county service area,” Vicki James, executive director, Northeast Kentucky American Red Cross, said.

“The raffle was the brainchild of the board from its first year and has continued on because of its success,”  James said. “The volunteer board has been the driving force behind the raffle’s accomplishments each year. They work hard behind the scenes, selling tickets and making sure our goal is achieved every year.”

The raffle is the only annual fundraising event for the local Red Cross chapter. Proceeds from the event support Red Cross programs and activities in Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Lawrence and Lewis counties, including disaster assistance, emergency communications for service members, blood services, health and safety programs and volunteer recruitment/training.

“The raffle is being held a little later this year because of a very busy first part of 2013,” James said. “As you can see from the news, large disasters like Hurricane Sandy and flooding in the Mideast have kept Red Cross busy across the country. When disasters pull volunteers from their local area, chapters are tasked to handle other disasters and be prepared to help when or wherever needed.”

Raffle tickets are available from Red Cross board members and from the Northeast Kentucky Red Cross office at 4201 Blackburn Ave. For more information, call (606) 325-1626.
