The Wayne National Forest Ironton Ranger District will have its annual children’s fishing derby Saturday at Lake Vesuvius.
Ages 4 through 15, accompanied by parents or guardians, are invited to fish. Registration will be from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. at the Lake Vesuvius boat ramp, with competition to start around 9:30 a.m. Derby winners will be announced at 12:30 p.m. In addition to the fishing competition, the day will feature educational activities, contests and hot dogs and beverages.
If possible, participants should bring their own fishing poles, buckets, bait and chairs, but some poles and bait will be available for children who do not have their own. All who attend are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, including bringing a hat and sunscreen.
For the safety of attendees and participants, the boat ramp will be closed during the event; it is expected to reopen by 2 p.m.
