CATLETTSBURG — 6 sentenced in Boyd courts

CATLETTSBURG According to Boyd Commonwealth’s Attorney David Justice’s office, the following defendants were sentenced Friday in Boyd Circuit Court:

Paul Phelps, 36, of Russell, eight years for trafficking in methamphetamine.

Joshua Bare, 22, of Ashland, 30 months for trafficking in marijuana.

Erica Steele, 30, two years for drug trafficking.

Kenneth Bolick, 24, of Ashland, two years for theft.

Terry Lee Newman, 42, of Ashland, four years for theft.

Richard Watson, 25, of Ashland, five years for possession of methamphetamine precursor.

Lions Club plans initial meeting

SOUTH SHORE The Lions Club will have an organizational supper at 6 p.m. Monday in the conference room of South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Medicaid provider forums planned

FRANKFORT As part of Gov. Steve Beshear’s emphasis on enhanced education efforts related to Medicaid managed care, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the Kentucky Department of Insurance have scheduled forums for health care providers in each of the eight Medicaid regions during May and June.

The sessions will follow the same agenda, beginning with a 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. provider information general session with Cabinet officials and concluding with a 1 to 3:30 p.m. session on provider billing with the MCOs in each region. The dates and locations of the forums are as follows:

Region 7, May 7: Button Auditorium, Morehead State University (220 Battson-Oates Drive, Morehead)

Region 8, May 8: Conference Center, Jenny Wiley State Resort Park (75 Theatre Court, Prestonsburg)

The forums will be attended by senior officials from CHFS, including Cabinet Secretary Audrey Tayse Haynes, Medicaid Commissioner Lawrence Kissner, Public Health Commissioner Dr. Stephanie Mayfield Gibson and Dr. Allen Brenzel of the Department for Behavioral Health, and Brian Staples, DOI ombudsman.

The forums are designed to allow medical providers to meet face-to-face with representatives of the managed care organizations  and DOI to discuss concerns about proper billing, the appeals processes and any specific regional issues, in addition to a general conversation about how to improve the overall system of health care delivery in Kentucky.

Veteran to  speak at roundtable

ASHLAND Fred O'Broff, a Korean War veteran who spent two years as a prisoner of war, will be the featured speaker of the Military History Roundtable meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Highlands Museum at 1620 Wincester Avenue. The meeting is sponsered by the Eastern Kentucky Military Historical Society. All are invited and welcome to attend.

Boyd GOP women to meet Monday

ASHLAND The Boyd County Republican Women’s Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at JJ Restaurant.

The club will be awarding its annual scholarship and also giving away a framed George Washington print for which it has been selling tickets to raise money for the scholarship fund.
