Area families and the Ashland Town Center will team with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the fight against childhood cancer on Saturday.
The connect!kids walk is designed to give area residents the opportunity to help support the lifesaving mission of one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research centers. The family-friendly walk will take place at the mall from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event and registration will begin at the play area. The walk will consist of one lap around the mall and activity stations. The activities will include a jump rope station, Mother’s Day crafts and a visit with Peanut the Magical Clown.
The walk and activities are free. The mall asks for $5 donations for connect!kids walk T-shirts. The mall will match donations up to $500 total.
“We are excited to help raise awareness and funds to support the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is to find cures and save children,” said Jaime Bloss, Ashland Town Center marketing director. “The connect!kids walk will truly make a difference in helping the children of St. Jude fight cancer and other deadly diseases.”
Since opening in 1962, St. Jude has treated children from all 50 states and around the world. No child is ever denied treatment because of a family’s inability to pay. With a daily operating cost of $1.7 million, St. Jude depends mostly on public contributions and fundraising events, such as the connect!kids walk.
