Greenup man shot while getting ready for church

MAYOR RIDGE — A Greenup County man was shot in the back while preparing to leave for church Sunday night, according to the Kentucky State Police.

Kenneth W. Sparks, 29, was inside his residence getting ready for church when he was struck with a single gunshot in the back around 5:30 p.m.

He was initially transported to Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital but later transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital where he remains in stable condition.

It appears the shot came from the Happy Ridge area and travelled into the rear wall of the residence and then struck  Sparks in the back.

The shooter has not been identified and the investigation remains ongoing by Det. Ben Cramer.

Greenup County EMS responded and assisted with the investigation.

Anyone with any information related to the shooting is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
