ASHLAND — Club to sponsor Santa breakfast

IRONTON

The Ironton Area Kiwanis Club will host Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 7 at the Ironton City Center at 301 S. Third St.

The cost is $5 a person and includes pancakes, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and milk. Those younger than 2 are free. A picture with Santa is included.

Proceeds benefit various local projects, programs and agencies in Ironton and Lawrence County.



Area Food Bank having drive

HUNTINGTON

The Huntington branch of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management will join forces with the Huntington Area Food Bank to launch its inaugural “Morgan Stanley Brokers Fill the Bank” food drive next week.  

The branch and more than 20 employees will be accepting donations of canned and dry goods at the office, at 1200 Third Ave., Huntington, WV 25701 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., from Monday to Friday. All donations will support families in need throughout the Tri-State area.



‘Christmas Story’ at Shawnee Dec. 3

PORTSMOUTH

The classic Charles Dickens tale “A Christmas Carol” will be performed by the Nebraska Theatre Caravan at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Shawnee State University’s Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.

Woven throughout the tale are renditions of nostalgic holiday songs, such as “God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen, “Wassail Wassail” and “Greensleeves,” among others.

It is a story of the Cratchit family and an old miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by four ghosts, and how it affected him.

The story of Christmas cheer and the redemption of a cold-hearted miser, “A Christmas Carol” is a play for the entire family with a Study Guide and Family Activities available atsopaa.org/a-christmas-carol-2.

Tickets for lower tier seating are $45 for general admission, $42 for seniors, $38 for students and $15 for children under 12. Upper tier prices are discounted and special discounts are available for families and groups.



Free varicose vein screenings

ASHLAND

King’s Daughters Medical Center is offering a free varicose vein screening beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Tri-State Vascular Specialists offices, Suite 140, Medical Plaza B, 613 23rd St.

Vascular/endovascular surgeon Al Addasi, M.D., will perform the screening.

The screening is available to adults age 18 and older and consists of a paper and pencil questionnaire followed by a visual examination of the affected area(s).

Appointments are required for the screening and can be made by calling King’s Daughters at (888) 377-5362.
