The Bowling Green State University Collegiate Chorale from Bowling Green, Ohio, will present a free concert of sacred and secular music at First Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The 30-voice touring mixed choir is conducted by Timothy Cloeter.
The varied concert program spans from classical music to American folksongs, from J.S. Bach to Benjamin Britten, and from French chansons to vocal jazz. Concert repertoire will include music by Schütz, Bach, Brahms, Fauré, Messiaen, Poulenc, Britten, Clausen and Whitacre. Program highlights will include Bach’s motet “Komm, Jesu, Komm,” Eric Whitacre’s “Cloudburst” with handbells and percussion, and folksong arrangements by René Clausen with clarinet, horn and cello.
The chorale is the most select choir in a five-choir program within the College of Music comprising more than 600 music majors. Consisting principally of juniors, seniors and graduate students majoring in music, the chorale engages audiences with authentic and conscientious performances of sophisticated and exceptional music, seeking to connect to listeners intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.
