CANNONSBURG — An event to raise money to help a Raceland couple cover expenses associated with their newborn daughter’s impending heart surgery is scheduled for Saturday.

The benefit motorcycle ride and cruise-in for the family of Paisley Jade Shannon will take place at RJ Kahuna’s in the Kyova Mall and will begin with registration at 11 a.m. Both the ride and the cruise-in will begin at 1 p.m.

The registration fee for the ride is $15 for singles and $20 for couples, and the fee for the cruise-in is $20 per car. There will also be raffles, a 50-50 drawing and a cornhole tournament.

Proceeds from the event will go to Thomas and Casey Shannon to help defray the costs they are expected to incur as the result of their daughter’s surgery.

According to a letter sent out by event organizers, Paisley is due to be born the first week of September, and her birth “will be the last normal part of Casey’s pregnancy.”

Doctors discovered during Casey’s fifth month of pregnancy Paisley has four major defects in her heart. Following her birth at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, she must undergo complicated open-heart surgery to repair them, the letter states.

“As you can imagine, the pressure and stress are immense. While both parents are gainfully employed and covered by health insurance, it will not be nearly enough to cover all the expenses they are anticipating. We are hoping to alleviate some of that stress by helping defray the medical and travel costs that will be incurred during Casey’s and Paisley’s four- to six-week hospital stay.”

Everyone who contributes to the cause will receive recognition, and major sponsors — $200 or more — will have their names printed on the backs of the T-shirts that will be sold at the event.

Kahuna’s will offer a special $5 hot dog plate, 100 percent of the proceeds from sales of which will be donated to the Shannons.

Anyone who wishes to contribute, but will be unable to attend Saturday’s event may do at Members Choice Credit Union, 145 Russell Road, where an account has been established under the name Prayers for Paisley; via PayPal, using the email prayersforpaisleyjade@yahoo.com; or by mailing a check or money order to P.O. Box 64, Worthington, KY 41183.
