Halloween event set at Don’s
ASHLAND - Don’s Men’s Shop will have a Halloween theme to its 64th anniversary celebration on Saturday in downtown Ashland.
Halloween contests for children and adults, a pet costume contest and a pumpkin contest are planned starting at 3:30 p.m. between 15th and 16th streets.
Gate City council to meet Monday
CATLETTSBURG - Catlettsburg City Council will have a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday to discuss advertising for bids for demolition of the old bank building. An executive session to discuss personnel is also planned.
Hydrant-flushing set in Wurtland
WURTLAND - The city will flush hydrants from 3 to 11 p.m. Nov. 4 through 8. For more information, call the city building.
Trunk or treat slated at church
ARGILLITE - Argillite Church of the Nazarene on Ky. 1 will host trunk or treat and a children’s costume parade at 10 a.m. Sunday. Costumes are acceptable, but nothing too scary. There will be two prizes for adults with the best decorated trunks.
Ceremonial handshake set
LOUISVILLE - Rep. Steve Riggs, D-Louisville, chairman of the House Local Government Committee, and Kentucky High School Athletic Association Commissioner Julian Tackett will be at the Dupont Manual-Male football game on Friday to participate in the post-game handshake between the teams.
The effort will demonstrate the men’s commitment to sportsmanship among Kentucky’s high school athletes. The two will address concerns about the recent KHSAA policy about organized handshakes following competition.
Stolen UK tickets recovered
MIDLAND - Kentucky State Police on Wednesday recovered a set of stolen 2013 University of Kentucky basketball tickets and arrested the person who was allegedly attempting to sell them.
Jackie M. Baty, 23, was charged with receiving stolen property and lodged in the Montgomery County Detention Center, according to a news release from the Morehead KSP post.
The KSP said it received a complaint of a suspicious person at the Frosty Freeze restaurant in the Bath County community of Midland. When a trooper arrived, he learned Baty was attempting to sell the tickets, which had been stolen from his neighbor in Clay City.
The tickets for the Wildcats’ home opener were missing, but all the others were recovered, the KSP said.
