ASHLAND — Halloween dance slated


Ashland Ballroom Dance will have a  Halloween dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 19 in the upstairs of the American Legion at 405 20th St.Cost is $10 per person.

Attendees are welcome to dress in costume or dress casually. Also those attending may bring a scary covered dish and their own alcoholic beverage, if they wish.

Fall Fest



Heritage Station shops will have Fall Fest 2013 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 19.

Stores with season offerings include:

‰The Wild Ramp. The second annual Fall Fest Bake Off invites amateur chefs to enter their favorite homemade apple or pumpkin dessert. Apples and pumpkin are required to be locally grown or purchased at The Wild Ramp and all components should be scratch made. Entry fee is $5.

All entries must provide 50 samples for the People’s Choice judging. The Wild Ramp will provide sample cups and utensils. Entries must be brought to The Wild Ramp by 11 a.m.; judging will begin at 2 p.m. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m. People’s Choice judging will be from 2 to 3 p.m.

‰Finds and Designs Fall Fashion Show will be at 2:30 p.m.

‰River and Rail Bakery. Lunch special will be Rolling R Farm Brats on fresh baked bread and a pumpkin apple soup. The bakery also will have seasonal pastries.

‰Bottle and Wedge will offer a 10 percent discount on all seasonal cheeses.

‰Common Grounds shop will have handmade, fall decorations made from natural and recycled materials. Visitors can learn how to make custom greeting cards from recycled paper. Several special craft vendors will be set up on the plaza from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

‰Brand Yourself will have a sale on custom designed hoodies and sweatshirts.

‰Artists will be on hand in The Red Caboose to show their wares and offer demonstrations.

‰Let’s Eat will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

‰Birds of a Feather clothing and accessory store will be open.

‰Sip Wine Bar and Tap House beer tasting room will be open past 5 p.m.

Family History Month events set


The Genealogy Department at the Boyd County Public Library are celebrating Family History Month with a variety of programs and a used book sale from Tuesday through Oct. 31.

All programs are at the main branch, 1740 Central Ave., either in the meeting room or in the Minnie C. Winder genealogy department on the second floor.

The program schedule includes:

‰Beginning Genealogy, Wednesday, 2 p.m.; and Oct. 23, 6 p.m.

‰Historic Bath Avenue Homes Slideshow, Thursday, 2 p.m.

‰Using Footnote.com, Oct. 22, 2 p.m.

‰Using Ancestry.com, Oct. 22, 6 p.m.

‰Historic Buildings of Downtown Ashland Slideshow, Oct. 24, 2 p.m.

Youth emphasis

Mavity Free Will Baptist Church will have Community Youth Fun Day from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday with inflatables, games, music and food.

The day will end with a worship service around a bonfire.

The church is a half mile from the Flying J.
