4 charged with pill trafficking

ASHLAND — A federal grand jury has indicted four for allegedly trafficking in prescription drugs in Lawrence County.

Brent D. Evans, Robert L. Evans, Aleshia Mills and Stephen M. Neal II were named in a six-count indictment handed up Sept. 25 in U.S. District Court in Ashland, but not unsealed until this week.

The indictment alleges the four “did conspire with each other and others” to knowingly and intentionally distribute, and possess with intent to distribute, oxycodone in Lawrence County from July 1, 2011, to April 10 of this year.

The indictment also charges the four knowingly and intentionally possessed oxycodone with intent to distribute in Fayette County on April 10.

Each of the defendants faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The ages and addresses of the defendants were unavailable, as were additional details of the case.

Federal authorities also are seeking the forfeiture of property on Zelda Loop Road in Louisa that was allegedly used to facilitate the defendants’ crimes, and $207,000, which represents the total allegedly obtained by the defendant as a result of the drug-trafficking crimes specified in the indictment.

The four were arraigned Tuesday before Magistrate Judge Edward B. Atkins and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Atkins set a trial date of Jan. 22 and allowed the defendants to remain free on their own recognizance.
