Man killed in Scioto fire
SCIOTOVILLE - A man was killed in an early-morning fire in Scioto County on Thursday.
The blaze was reported at 2:20 a.m. in a one-story home in the 1100 block of Rose Street in Sciotoville, Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison said.
The victim’s body was discovered in the living room area by search crews and transported by the Scioto County Coroner’s Office to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy, Raison said. The victim hasn’t been identified.
The Portsmouth Fire Department responded with two engines and three command units and was assisted by the New Boston Fire Department. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Transfer event set at OUS
IRONTON - Ohio University Southern will host a transfer day from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Ohio Room of the Collins Center.
Students who have attended or are attending other colleges or universities and are planning to transfer to OUS will receive information about degrees, financial aid and transfer requirements.

3 arrested in Rowan burglary
MOREHEAD - Kentucky State Police at Morehead on Thursday arrested three in connection with a residential burglary earlier this week in Morehead.
Jonathan J. Runyon, 20; Adam L. Wilson, 25; and Alisha E. Broussard, 24, all of Morehead, were lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center, according to a news release from the Morehead KSP post.
The suspects were each charged with one count of second-degree burglary, one count of third-degree burglary and one count of felony theft, the KSP said.
The KSP said it received a report of a burglary in the 300 block of Freestone Road on Tuesday. Trooper Keith Howard responded and determined the perpetrators had gained entry to the residence through the back door, the KSP said.
Through the course of the investigation, Howard recovered a number of items stolen in the burglary at another residence in the 300 block of Freestone Road, the KSP said.
The case remains under investigation by Howard.
Hospice to host event for vets
ASHLAND - Community Hospice will honor area veterans at a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at the Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road.
The event is planned as an outside event, but in case of inclement weather, it will be inside. A reception will follow.
The ceremony will feature comments from Gilda Hall, executive director of the Office of Kentucky Veterans Centers, and music from the Russell High School Concert Band.

Veterans offered free haircuts
ASHLAND - Tri-State Barber College at 2132 Winchester Ave. will offer free haircuts to veterans from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.
Veterans must provide proof of service, such as discharge papers.
Bean dinner scheduled in Load
LOAD - The Load Volunteer Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary will host a bean dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the fire department. Beans, hot dogs and chips will be available for $5 for adults and $2.50 for ages age 12 and younger.
Church to have benefit Saturday
ASHLAND - Straight Creek Church of the Nazarene will host a songfest and bean dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday at the church on Ky. 5. There will be music by Anna Craft, the Crisps, the Litterals, the Hope Singers and a surprise group.
Proceeds will go toward medical and travel expenses for a lung transplant for Sheila Clevenger Stafford.
