5 indicted in alleged drug pipeline

GREENUP — Five defendants arrested last month in what authorities described as a Detroit-to-Kentucky drug-trafficking operation were among those named in a round of indictments returned recently by a Greenup County grand jury.

Dennis “D.J.” Alexander, 21, of Detroit; Jason P. White, 29, of Westland, Mich., a Detroit suburb; and James R. Hieneman, 42, of Greenup, were each charged with two counts of first-degree trafficking and one count of third-degree trafficking. Alexander also was charged with marijuana possession.

Alexander, White and Hieneman were arrested Aug. 4 following a traffic stop on Main Street in Greenup. Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Greenup Police Department located and seized “thousands” of dollars in cash, along with a sizable quantity of illegal drugs, Sheriff Keith Cooper said.

According to Cooper, the arrests led deputies to obtain a search warrant for a residence in the 2200 block of Bays Ridge. The search turned up prescription pills, 14 grams of marijuana, marijuana plants, suspected stolen property, a handgun and several thousand dollars in cash.

James L. Leadingham, 54, and Diane J. Leadingham, 59, the residents of the Bays Ridge home, were indicted on charges stemming from the search. Both were charged with two counts of first-degree drug trafficking, trafficking in marijuana, more than 8 ounces, and cultivating marijuana, fewer than five plants. James Leadingham also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

A grand jury indictment is a formal accusation of a crime and does not establish guilt.

Others named in true bills handed up recently by the grand jury were:

Jessica D. Sammons, 35, of Wurtland, charged with manufacturing methamphetamine.

Ryan J. Cornwell, 33, of Ashland, charged with manufacturing methamphetamine and second-degree persistent felony offender.

Lena H. Wireman, 56, of Greenup, charged with two counts of first-degree drug trafficking.

Lezlee D. Crown, aka Lezlee D. Brown, 37, of South Webster, Ohio, charged with eight counts of first-degree unlawful access to a computer.

Ashley N. Spencer, 24, of Flatwoods, charged with seven counts of first-degree unlawful access to a computer.
