Tree seedling giveaway set
The Greenup County Conservation District’s tree seedling giveaway will be later this week.
Species include flowering dogwood, Chinese chestnut, hazelnut, pecan, black cherry, Eastern redbud, black walnut and white pine.
They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the office adjacent to Bridgeport Equipment on U.S. 23 in Wurtland or at the public library in South Shore from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.
Seedlings are limited to six per household for landowners in Greenup County only.

Watershed Watch program May 1
Greenup County Conservation District’s inaugural Watershed Watch training program will be from 5 to 9 p.m. May 1 at the University of Kentucky Extension office at 35 Wurtland Ave.
There is no cost to attend, but participants are asked to RSVP by the morning of April 30 at (606) 833-0180.
The Kentucky Division of Water launched the watershed management program in 1997. It is a public outreach effort to promote the new watershed management plan and enlist volunteers to help in the assessment of the waterways in the state.
Since 1997, Watershed Watch has trained nearly 4,000 volunteers and has 2,000 that sample throughout the state. There are monitoring stations in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee.
