ASHLAND — Local radio personality and author Mark Justice has published his latest novel, “The Dead Sheriff: Zombie Damnation,” a supernatural western.

“As a child, I watched hundreds of Western movies and TV shows with my father, and I’ve been a lifelong fan of horror," Justice said. “Fans of both genres should enjoy ‘The Dead Sheriff.’”

In the book, a naive and idealistic newspaper reporter travels West to write a dime novel about the mysterious Dead Sheriff. According to the legend, a lawman was murdered while defending his family from killers. He clawed his way from the grave to seek justice for his family and all others who have been wronged in the lawless West. But, as the reporter soon discovers, there is a vast gulf between legend and fact. The Dead Sheriff is quite real, and more terrifying than anyone could have imagined.

“The Dead Sheriff: Zombie Damnation” the first book in an ongoing series, is published by Evileye Books, a Chicago-area publisher of dark fiction.

Justice also wrote “Deadneck Hootenanny, Looking at the World with Broken Glass in My Eye,” and, with David T. Wilbanks, the “Dead Earth” series, including the forthcoming “Dead Earth: Sanctuary.”

Since 1985, he has hosted “The Breakfast Club” on 105.7 WLGC. He also produces and hosts the popular podcast “Pod of Horror.”
