ASHLAND — AARP Tax-Aide, a program that has benefited tax payers who need guidance for more than 25 years, will again offer assistance.

Sites became operational on Friday and will continue to offer help through April 15 with federal and state tax preparation.

“Many taxpayers with low and moderate income rely on us to assist them with their tax return at no cost,” Jay Hill, district coordinator Ky. 1 for AARP Foundation, said.

Last year, local counselors, trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service, helped file more than 2,300 returns. There is no charge to get help through the program.

Those seeking help must provide a photo ID and proof of Social Security number; a copy of last year’s income tax returns; W-2 forms from each employer; unemployment compensation statements; SSA-1099 form if paid Social Security benefits; all 1099 forms showing interest or dividends and documentation showing original purchase price of sold assets; 1099R forms if pension or annuity was received; all forms indicating federal income tax; child-care provider information, receipts or canceled checks, if itemizing; and current year’s tax forms and preparation booklet.
