Poll locations for today’s local option election in Greenup County have been changed for several precincts.
According to County Clerk Pat Hieneman, those polling places are normally in schools and had to be moved for today’s special election because classes will be in session.
The change is for today’s election only, Hieneman said.
The affected precincts are:
‰ Flatwoods No. 4 and Russell No. 2, which both normally vote at Russell McDowell Elementary School, will vote today at the Plaza Nazarene Church life center, 400 Diederich Blvd.
‰ Raceland No. 1 and Raceland No. 2, both of which normally vote at Campbell Elementary, both will vote today at the old Raceland High School gym.
‰ The Sunshine precinct, which normally votes at McKell Middle School, will vote today at the South Shore Fire Department.
‰ Worthington No. 1 and Worthington No. 2, both of which normally vote at Worthington Elementary School, will vote today in the fellowship hall of the Worthington Church of the Nazarene, 920 Kentucky Ave.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. At issue is whether legal alcohol sales should be allowed county-wide in Greenup.
Currently, the only places in Greenup County where alcohol may be legally bought and sold are the city of Russell, where voters approved a ballot measure allowing the sale of alcohol at restaurants, and the Bellefonte Country Club. Currently, there are no restaurants in Russell that serve alcoholic beverages because none have applied for licenses.
