The Grayson Gallery & Art Center will present the third annual HeART of the Parks Juried Art Competition with the free opening reception and awards ceremony from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the gallery.
Numerous purchase awards from area individuals and businesses will be chosen from accepted works. In addition, personal donors, supporters and companies sponsored the cash and merit awards with more than $500 in prizes. For a $15 entry fee for up to three pieces, artists will compete for the following categories:
Drawing: all media; Painting: watercolor and oil and/or acrylic; Photography/Digital Media: all types; Three Dimensional: all materials and mixed media, all materials.
The theme for this year’s art competition makes reference to Grayson Hometown Holidays. The gallery aims to have a festive and celebratory aspect to this year's event to hold work over through December.
The name of the show is based on the city of Grayson’s slogan, which identifies the city as the hub, or heart, of the region’s lakes and parks, such as Grayson Lake and Carter Caves State Park, in addition to the area’s proximity to Greenbo Lake.
Awards will be given at 8 p.m., after a special performance by Ashland native musician Mark Fosson, whose return engagement to the Grayson Gallery this year comes after his northern U.S. tour of selected cities.
Refreshments will be provided by Catering by Laura.
The gallery is at the corner of Carol Malone and Third Street.
