Believing that a healthy body and healthy mind go together, Boyd County Public Library is sponsoring the inaugural Love Your Library 5K run/walk on April 26.
The evening event is also sponsored by BCPL Friends and the Highlands Museum & Discovery Center. The goal is to raise awareness of the library and literacy — not to raise funds.
The walk will begin at 6 p.m., and go once around Central Park, about 1.25 miles. The run portion starts at 7 p.m. and follows the same 5K course as the Poage Landing Days event.
Anyone with a BCPL card can save money on the registration — only $8. If you don’t have a card, it costs $10 to pre-register and $15 the day of the event.
Walkers can participate for free with a library card. The fee is $6 for those without a card. There is no pre-registration needed for the walk. Just show up in the Library Commons area adjacent to the Main Branch between 5 and 6 p.m. that day.
T-shirts will be given to the first 125 to register. Everyone will also get a BCPL “swag bag” and there will be refreshments and door prizes, including an iPad and a family pass to the Highlands Museum.
Trophies will be awarded to the first two overall male and female finishers. Awards will also be given to the first two finishers in each male and female age group: 9 and under; 10-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; and 70 and up.
Registration forms are available at the Main (Ashland), Catlettsburg or Kyova branches. Checks should be made out to Huntington Road Runners Club. You can also register online, at TriStateRacer.com. Those mailing their registrations should send it to: Love Your Library 5K, c/o Alan Osuch, 5024 Williams Ave., Ashland, KY 41101. Osuch, the race director, can be reached at (606) 369-4403.
