Man charged in crack deal
Boyd County sheriff’s deputies on Saturday arrested an Ohio man for allegedly dealing crack cocaine out of an Ashland motel.
Jharel D. Kirkland, 24, of Columbus, was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, charged with first-degree drug trafficking.
According to the sheriff’s department, Kirland sold 4 grams of crack to an undercover Boyd County Drug Task Force deputy. The deal took place at the Ashland Inn, 3020 Winchester Ave.
A search of the suspect turned up additional crack, along with cash, the sheriff’s department said.
Utility work to block road
Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. has notified the Kentucky Department of Highways that utility work, including equipment loading and unloading, near the 2500 block of Cranston Road (Ky/ 377) in Rowan County today will require short-term traffic changes.
9 die in crashes on state highways
Preliminary statistics indicate that nine died in seven separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday to Sunday last week.
One single-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Jefferson, Mason, Metcalfe, Muhlenberg, Pike and Whitley. The victims in Jefferson, Mason, Metcalfe, Muhlenberg and Pike counties were not wearing seat belts.
