Meth busts in Westwood, Ashland

ASHLAND — One man was taken into custody Friday in Ashland by deputies with the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department Drug Task Force, and felony charges are pending against another.

Dwayne L. Hatten, 52, was arrested and faces a felony count of manufacturing methamphetamine at his residence in the 2900 block of Ohio Street in Westwood. Deputies were following up on a tip and discovered eight meth labs, one of which was active.

Richard C. Smith, 47, who had been taken into custody as of Saturday morning, also is facing felony meth charges after a tip led to the discovery of an active meth lab at his residence in the 2100 block of Dixon Street in Ashland.

A release from the sheriff’s office states that additional charges may be filed in both cases.
