CATLETTSBURG — CASA’s fifth annual CASAblanca event on May 11 will feature casino games, dinner and dancing.

The fundraiser will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Bellefonte Country Club. Tickets are $50 and are available in advance or at the door.

CASA, which stands for Court-Appointed Special Advocates, provides advocacy for children who have been removed from their home because of substantial child abuse or neglect.

Carol Adams, executive director of CASA, said casino games were added to the CASAblanca-themed party last year and proved to be so popular the nonprofit brought them back.

“We had such a positive feedback we’ve expanded on that and have a lot more games and tables coming this year,” she said.

Games will include blackjack, craps, roulette and Let it Ride.

“It is all for fun, no real money is exchanged,” said Adams, explaining door prizes for winners will be given at the end of the evening.

Adams said the casino night theme is a novelty in this area. Years ago there were more parties with that theme, but to her knowledge CASA now has the only one.

In addition to the games, the evening will feature a large auction with items appealing to a broad range of interests and age groups, including sports memorabilia, travel packages and gift cards from local businesses.

“It is just a fun night to come out and support local foster children,” she said. “Come out for a good evening and give our organization a much-needed chance to raise some awareness of child abuse and prevention.”
