ASHLAND — Library book sale set for Saturday

Gallery’s open house Saturday

The Painted Cow Gallery will have its fifth annual open house from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Two prominent local artists, Harley Fannin and Andrea Prince, will make appearances.

Barren returns to WSAZ desk

HUNTINGTON

Amanda Barren will be returning to join Bill Murray as co-anchor of WSAZ’s “First at 5” news program, according to News Director Dan Fabrizio.

Barren anchored WSAZ NewsChannel 3 weekend newscasts beginning in 2006 and also served as weekday reporter based in Charleston until July 2010.  Since then she has lived in Cleveland and anchored the noon newscasts at WKYC-TV.  Before that, she was an anchor, reporter and producer at WJET-TV in Erie, Pa.; WTAP-TV in Parkersburg, WVa.; and WOUB-TV/Radio in Athens, Ohio.

 Barren’s first day on-air will be Monday.



Special reading set at Boyd library

“Ebeneezer Snooze” will be at the main branch of the Boyd County Public Library at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Milk and cookies will be served and all children will receive a gift. Ebeneezer will read to children.

ACT prep classes offered

PORTSMOUTH

Looking to improve your score on the ACT and learn new test-taking strategies? Throughout spring semester, University Outreach Services at Shawnee State University is offering ACT test prep classes in every subject. All classes will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The Spring ACT testing dates are Feb. 9, April 13 and June 8.

The classes scheduled are:

‰Reading:  Jan. 15 and March 19;

‰Math: Jan. 17 and March 21;

‰Writing: Jan. 22 and March 26;

‰English:  Jan. 31 and April 4;

‰Science Reasoning: Jan. 29 and April 2.

The courses cost $149 for all the classes or $49 individually. The REAL ACT Prep Guide with CD is included with paid registration. Payment must be received no later than 48 hours before the beginning date of the series.
