Westwood man charged with attempted murder

ASHLAND — A Westwood man was arrested on attempted murder charges following an incident Sunday night, according to the Ashland Police Department.

Michael L. Thompson, 38, was charged following an investigation.

Police were called to the residence of Thompson’s estranged wife after she called 911 saying he was threatening over the telephone to kill her.

Officers went to Thompson’s residence to speak with him about the allegations, but after they left he continued calling her with threats to kill her.

While investigating the complaint, the suspect drove up to the house and then left when he saw APD officers at the scene.

Thompson was subsequently arrested for DUI and, during the process, two loaded handguns were located in the vehicle floorboard. He was also charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and is currently lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center.

The case remains under investigation by APD officer Dustin Allgood.
