ASHLAND — A Tudor’s Biscuit World is still coming to Ashland but will open later than initially expected.

In February, Better Foods Inc., which owns the regional franchise, acquired the former Wendy’s location in the 2700 block of Winchester Avenue in Ashland. At that time, CEO Oshel Craigo said the new restaurant would open in early May following some renovation work.

That time period has past, and the building shows few signs of any changes. Tudor’s officials say the work was delayed but will be completed.

“We are coming,” said Craigo this week. “I think we have it worked out now. I think we are ready to go,” he said, in terms of getting the needed building permits to make the improvements.

“Hopefully we are going to start work on it in the next week,” he said, adding, “It will probably take us a couple of months to get all the equipment and everything we need in there.”

The restaurant serves home-cooked meals for breakfast and lunch. Initially it will be open from 4:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. but hours will gradually be extended to 7 p.m., Craigo said.

Craigo said the company is continuing to look for additional locations within a 20- to 25-minute travel radius of the Winchester Avenue location. “We’re still working across the river in Ironton, Ohio. We have a potential location there I’m really excited about and we’re looking at another location in Ashland as well,” he said.

“We would like to have five stores in that geographic area, where we can drive from one to another. It helps us with advertisement, supervision and distribution,” he said.

The company is hiring, and is looking for employees to staff the new Ashland location, said Craigo. About 35 employees including a manager and an assistant manager are needed for the new location.

Craigo said the company is already accepting applications. “We are certainly looking for employees. We want to hit the ground running. The minute we have a crew in there, we will have applications in there all the time,” he said.

Applications are available now through the companies website at: tudorsbiscuitworld.com or by calling (304) 727-1650.

The regional franchise has locations in 26 West Virginia counties along with several restaurants in Ohio and Kentucky.
