GRAYSON — For the second time in two days, an employee of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department was arrested on a felony charge on Thursday.

Tracy J. Dickerson, 61, of Grayson, a reserve deputy with the sheriff’s department, was arrested by Kentucky State Police on a charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to a news release from the Ashland KSP post.

The KSP said it launched an investigation on Wednesday into allegations that Dickerson was carrying a handgun during the course of his duties as a reserve deputy when he was not legally permitted to do so because of a prior felony conviction. The allegations were substantiated, the KSP said.

The KSP said it also determined Dickerson had been with the sheriff’s department for about 18 months and is currently on suspension.

Dickerson was lodged in the Carter County Detention Center.

Dickerson’s arrest came one day after the KSP arrested a court bailiff who works for the sheriff’s department on a charge of third-degree sodomy. The charge stemmed from allegations that Earl Buckler, 63, of Grayson, sexually abused a female jail inmate.

Buckler, who resigned his position Tuesday, was charged with the Class D felony after an internal investigation at the detention center revealed evidence of the alleged abuse.

Buckler was chief bailiff at the Carter County Justice Center for several years. He was responsible for court security and inmate transports.
