Man stabbed in rural Greenup County

LOAD — One man was flown to a Huntington hospital and another was arrested following a stabbing in rural Greenup County Tuesday night.

The incident occurred about 11 p.m. in the 16000 block of Ky. 7, near Jerry & Debbie Howard’s Grocery. When Greenup County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Timothy Grizzle, 41, of Cub Run Road, lying the middle of the road bleeding profusely, Sheriff Keith Cooper said.

Grizzle had suffered multiple stab wounds and was in a semi-conscious state, Cooper said. He was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where at last report, he was listed in serious condition, according to the sheriff.

Grizzle’s alleged assailant, Kenton R. Imel, 29, of Imel Road, was arrested at the scene on a charge of first-degree assault, Cooper said. He was lodged in the Greenup County Detention Center.

Imel told investigators he and Grizzle had gotten into a fight and that he had stabbed Grizzle in self-defense, Cooper said. The sheriff said it wasn’t clear what started the fracas, but that both men had apparently been drinking.

Grizzle’s injuries were described as life-threatening, but Cooper said it appeared from the information he’d gotten that he was going to pull through.

First-degree assault is a Class B felony that carries a 10- to 20-year prison sentence.

The incident remains under investigation by Deputy David Bocook.
