ASHLAND — DAR to offer

genealogy help

ASHLAND

The Poage Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will have a genealogy workshop at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at the main branch of the Boyd County Public Library.

The session is free; lunch will be provided.

Greenup cruise-in will be Saturday

GREENUP

The Greenup County Cruisers will have a cruise-in and movie night at 6 p.m. Saturday in front of the Greenup County Courthouse.

A People’s Choice trophy will be presented at the end of the evening and door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. Concessions will be available.

Registration for a vehicle will be $5; spectators for the movie and the cruise-in are admitted free.

Proceeds will help the Greenup County Cruisers’ project Cruising for the Community which raises money for children with cancer.

Antique show scheduled

HUNTINGTON

The Pilot Club of Huntington will have its 62nd annual antiques show and sale Aug. 22 through 24 at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena.

Mre than 30 antique dealers from several states will have antiques, collectibles and vintage modern pieces for sale.

Annual poetry contest upcoming

FLATWOODS

The deadline for the Flatwoods Poetry Society’s annual contest is Aug. 15.

Entries must be the original work of the poet and have not previously won a cash prize in a contest. Only one poem may be entered per category.

Entries must be typed and double spaced and contain the contest number and category in the left-hand corner with no identification; on a separate sheet, place name and address in right-hand corner and list all poems entered.

Entries, along with entry fees payable by cash,check or money order, to Phyllis Riley, 4047 South View Road, Ashland, KY 41101.

There is an entry fee only for the Grand Prix category; fee is $5. Other categories include religous, nonet, kaiju, triolet, rondeau, personification, limerick, free verse, mountain ballad, cinquain, Appalachian poem, home town, love poem and patriotic poem.

Awards will be presented at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 during the group’s banquet. The location is yet to be announced.

Car wash to

benefit AARF

RUSSELL

Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have a car wash and pet adoption event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tractor Supply.

Donations will be accepted for car washes.

Also accepted will be pet-care supplies and cash donations for AARF.

    A scan in 2009 that was supposed to show doctors what was causing Deborah Cline’s eye problems by chance revealed the cancer in her lung.
    Two years later, Roger Cline watched his wife die of lung cancer. Deborah Cline was 59 and had never smoked.
