SOMC donates $10K to charities
Southern Ohio Medical Center is donating $10,000 to local charities and, through its Facebook fan page, allowing community members to decide exactly how those funds will be dispersed.
“SOMC has a long history of supporting the local community, but this time we wanted to do something a little bit different,” said Randy Arnett, president and CEO of SOMC. “We wanted to let the community help us decide how to distribute the contribution through social media, and we’ve been thrilled with the results so far.”
SOMC’s Community Valentine is a campaign that encourages community members to vote for one of five local charities featured in an SOMC Facebook poll. Each charity will receive a percentage of the $10,000 donation equal to the percentage of votes they receive in the poll. Voting will end at noon Feb. 14.
Bridge repair on U.S. 52 next week
A bridge repair project will get under way next week in Scioto County as the Ohio Department of Transportation has awarded a contract to repair the U.S. 52 overpass near Franklin Furnace.
On Tuesday, crews from Civil Construction Inc. will begin repairing the structural I-beams of the overpass bridge at the route’s 35.72-mile marker by heat straightening, a method to apply controlled heat to gradually straighten the steel.
The overpass bridge, which is situated on County Road 7 and crosses over U.S. 52, was damaged in early December when it was reportedly struck by an overheight vehicle.
During construction, westbound U.S. 52 will be reduced to one lane, and lane restrictions at the bridge on County Road 7 will remain the same, with it open to one lane of traffic and maintained with temporary traffic signals. Motorists are reminded to pay heed in the construction zone and drive with additional caution.
The project is anticipated to be completed by early March.
