Man charged with drug dealing
ASHLAND - Kentucky State Police have arrested an Ashland man on drug-trafficking charges.
During the course of a two-month investigation, Orlando T. Barbour, 44, of Hampton Street, allegedly engaged in the sale of various illegal drugs, including heroin, according to a news release from the Ashland KSP post.
Barbour was lodged in the Boyd Coiunty Detention Center on a charge of first-degree drug trafficking. Additional charges are pending completion of the investigation, the KSP said.
8 sentenced in Boyd courts
CATLETTSBURG - According to a release from Boyd Commonwealth’s Attorney David Justice’s office, the following defendants were sentenced recently in Boyd Circuit Court:
Joseph McGranahan, 30, of Ironton, a year for drug possession.
Daniel Adams, 32, of Flatwoods, six years for possession of methamphetamine precursor and promoting contraband.
Brandon Gibbs, 38, of Catlettsburg, 10 years for manufacturing meth.
Charles Shelton, 68, of Cannonsburg, eight years for drug trafficking.
Lisa Adams, 41, of Ashland, 21⁄2 years for drug trafficking.
William Abrahanson, 44, of Ashland, a year for drug trafficking.
Toni Bobbitt, 27, of Ashland, 10 years for theft and receiving stolen property.
Walter Clark III, 57, of Ashland, a year for assault.
Entries sought for photo contest
ASHLAND - The Boyd County Public Library will sponsor its second annual photo exhibit in August in conjunction with the adult summer reading program “Groundbreaking Reads.”
“Groundbreaking Images” is the theme of the exhibit, which runs Aug. 2 through 30.
The display will be at the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center at 1620 Winchester Ave. The opening reception will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 2.
Photographers may interpret the theme in any way they choose. Entries must be original work. Submitted photos must be framed, ready to hang and dropped off with an entry form at the main branch, 1740 Central Ave., by 5 p.m. July 26.
Photos will be judged on composition, print quality, uniqueness and adherence to theme. A Best of Show Award (and a $50 prize) will be awarded at the opening reception, to which all exhibitors and the public are invited.
“Groundbreaking Reads” runs through Labor Day. Adults earn rewards based on the number of books they read this summer.

Movie, stories will be Friday
ASHLAND - The Boyd County Public Library’s Story Lady will be at the main branch of the Boyd County Public Library at 6 p.m. Friday.
The event will be in the Reading Garden, weather permitting. The program will include stories and a craft.
Pictures in the Park will be at 9:30 p.m. on a large, outdoor screen outside the library. “Independence Day” will be shown.
The movie is free and snacks will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring their own seating.
