ASHLAND — Fireworks display at 10:15 tonight

ASHLAND - The Summer Motion fireworks display will take place at 10:15 tonight after Sawyer Brown takes the stage on the riverfront.

The display is one of the largest in the Tri-State and one of the most popular Summer Motion activities.

Bake sale benefits shelter children

SUMMIT - Madison Dixon, a student at Cannonsburg Elementary School, will have a bake sale Friday at Kentucky Farmers Bank on U.S. 60 to purchase birthday toys for the children at Shelter of Hope.

Recently, she donated some of her own toys to the children, and she along with her Girl Scout Troop showered a new mother with baby gifts. Last year, the girl sponsored children with school clothes and Christmas gifts.

Juvenile diabetes sessions planned

SUMMIT - School-age children diagnosed with juvenile diabetes and their parents can learn about nutrition, diabetes education and more at a free program called “Whole Family Approach to Caring for Kids with Juvenile Diabetes.”

The event, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 11, 18 and 25 at Kyova Mall, is hosted by the Northeast Kentucky Care Center, the area’s local no-charge clinic.

Each session will include a children’s cooking class, information from a licensed diabetic educator, peer support groups for caregivers and children and other activities.

Seating is limited and registration is required. To participate, call (606) 325-1810. Adult caregivers/parents must accompany children. Youngsters who attend all three sessions will qualify to enter door prizes.
