IRONTON — Pa. quartet will perform Saturday

IRONTON - Minas, a Philadelphia-based Brazilian quartet with vocalist, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Ohio University Southern’s Riffe Center Mains Rotunda.

Admission is $10; OUS students will be admitted free with a valid student ID.

Flash mob set in Huntington

HUNTINGTON - As part of the Johnny Appleseed District 2013 Spring Convention, a flash mob of about 200 men from a variety of Barbershop Quartets will perform at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Pullman Square.

The district of the Barbershop Harmony Society will have its convention in Huntington for the first time in 30 years. Between 1,000 and 1,200 are expected to attend the event, which includes a contest to select the best chorus in the district as well as competition to select quartets to represent the district at the International Barbershop Competition in Toronto.

Civil War event will be featured

HUNTINGTON - The Heritage Farm Museum and Village will have a Way Back Weekend from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Featured will be a Civil War re-enactment by middle-school-age students from the Western Virginia Military Academy and the Cabell Girls Finishing School. Other activities will include period games and dances popular during the war.

River and Rail Bakery will have food for sale and three farm museums will be open for tours, in addition to blacksmithing, a petting zoo, a children’s museum and wagon rides, weather permitting.

The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for ages 2 through 12.

Church rummage sale upcoming

WURTLAND - Chinns Branch Baptist Church will have a hot dog and rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church on Ky. 693. There will be knick knacks, clothing, toys and more.

AARF fundraiser set for Saturday

ASHLAND - The Ashland Animal Rescue Fund will have a Spay-Getti dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Ashland Transportation Building at 99 15th St.

Raffles are planned and gift baskets will be up for silent bidding. AARF products will be for sale.

The cost is $10 per adult ticket and $5 for ages 12 and younger.

‰May 3 — Westminster on Winchester during the First Friday art walk.

‰May 11 — Adoption event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tractor Supply, at which time donations will be accepted.

May 25 — Putt for Mutts golf scramble at Diamond Links golf course.

Final meeting for trip is Tuesday

ASHLAND - Travelers planning to go on the Ashland Senior Center’s trip to Mackinac Island on Aug. 25 through 31 must attend a meeting at noon Tuesday at the center, at which time final payment is due.

Ten seats are still available for the trip, which costs $649 for seven days and six nights.

The trip includes motorcoach transportation, lodging, 10 meals, a guided tour, a carriage tour, a boat ride, sightseeing in Sault Sainte Marie and other tours.
