HUNTINGTON — The Huntington Museum of Art is thanking the community in a big way with its annual gala, scheduled for Feb. 16 at the museum.

The theme of the event, “Here’s Looking at You: Thanking the Tri-State for 60 Years of Support,” acknowledges the 60th anniversary of the museum while thanking the public for its role in the museum’s success, gala chairwoman Halcyon Moses explained.

“We wanted to thank the Tri-State for its support of the museum,” she said, noting the theme will take attendees back to the1950s, when the museum was founded and will create the  feeling of an old movie with décor that is simple and elegant with blacks, whites and grays with splashes of color. Moses said she hopes to collect many photos of past galas for display at the event so those attending can browse them and see friends and family who attended over the past decades.

“It will have the feeling of a Hollywood premiere where the guests are the stars,” Moses said.

The black-tie event will include a filet mignon dinner prepared by Wellington’s of Charleston and dance music by The Company, both of whom were a part of last year’s gala.

Making the public the stars of the gala is important, Moses said.

“I love the emphasis of taking the spotlight and turning it back on the supporters,” she said. “The museum has  great, close-knit group of supporters in the community.”

Development director Carole Bailey said the gala, the longest-running such event in the Tri-State, is the biggest event-centered fundraiser the museum has each year. The goal this year is the same as last year: to raise $75,000. Bailey said the museum is on track to be successful.

Bailey said the 13-member gala committee has met regularly since July to plan the event, which will begin at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception and high-end auction.

Seating for dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. and dancing will begin at 9 p.m.

Advance tickets for the 50/50 cash raffle are one for $5 or give for $20.
